Apopka candidate drops out; Dean re-elected
Apopka City Council candidate Brantley Thomas Jr. has dropped out of the race for Seat 1, handing the election to incumbent commissioner Billie L. Dean, the only African-American member of the elected board.
Thomas, an Air Force veteran who volunteers at the Orlando VA Medical Center, cited his intention to “pursue other citizenry interests” but offered no other details in his written notice to city officials.

Apopka race team finishes 2nd in Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH — Twenty-four hours all came down to an eight-minute trophy dash Sunday as the Action Express Daytona Prototype Chevrolet Corvette, driven by Joao Barbosa, took the team’s second Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, finishing about a second and a half ahead of another Corvette DP, the Apopka-based Wayne Taylor Racing car driven to the finish by Max Angelelli.
